Brake discs and pads can look similar across a model range while having important differences in diameter, thickness, brake system and pad shape. That is why choosing brakes from make, model and year alone can lead to the wrong parts.

Start with the exact vehicle

Select the exact make, model, engine and year using the vehicle lookup. If several versions are shown, use additional information such as power output, engine code, chassis notes or production date where available. Performance and larger-engine versions often use different brakes from standard models.

Front and rear brakes are different

Front and rear discs normally have different dimensions and pad designs. The product title and fitting position should clearly state which axle is covered. Some listings are disc pairs only, some are pad sets, some combine discs and pads for one axle, and others cover front and rear. Read the supplied contents carefully.

Brake pad shape and brake system

Pad width and height are useful, but the overall shape, ears, clips, sensor provision and caliper system also matter. Two pads with similar measurements can have different backing plates. Compare the listing image and technical information with the correct catalogue data rather than trimming or modifying a pad to fit.

Use OE and manufacturer part numbers

If you have a reliable OE reference from the old part, dealer data or a parts catalogue, search it on the site and compare the cross-references. An OE number is particularly helpful where the same vehicle was built with more than one brake package. Read our OE-number guide for more detail.

Why disc diameter alone is not enough

A 312 mm disc from one application is not automatically interchangeable with every other 312 mm disc. Thickness, height, centre bore, bolt layout and brake system may differ. Treat diameter as one checkpoint, not the whole fitment decision.

What about drilled, grooved and standard discs?

Disc surface design is separate from basic vehicle fitment. A drilled or grooved performance-style disc still needs the correct core dimensions and application. If switching disc style, confirm that the product is catalogued for your exact vehicle and axle.

Should discs and pads be replaced together?

Condition and manufacturer repair guidance determine what needs replacing. New pads are commonly fitted with new discs when the old discs are worn or damaged, helping the friction surfaces bed together correctly. If retaining discs, they should be within specification and in suitable condition.
