When is a VIN useful?
The VIN identifies the individual vehicle and can help distinguish production details that a broad make/model/year search may miss. A VIN is especially useful when there were specification changes during a model run.
Why are OE numbers useful?
An OE number is a component reference associated with original equipment. Matching an OE reference can be a strong cross-check when several visually similar parts exist, but superseded references and manufacturer cross-references mean the full application should still be checked.
What technical details should I compare?
The answer depends on the part. For brake discs, check diameter, thickness, height, centre bore and construction. For brake pads, compare shape, dimensions, brake system and sensor requirements. For suspension arms, compare fitting side, mounting points, bushes and ball-joint design.
