What is a solid brake disc?
A solid disc is a single solid section of metal across the braking ring. Solid discs are commonly used where the braking load and heat demand allow a simpler design, often on the rear axle of many vehicles.
What is a vented brake disc?
A vented disc has internal air channels between two braking faces. These channels help manage heat generated during braking. Vented discs are common on front axles and on heavier or higher-performance applications.
Can I fit a vented disc instead of a solid disc?
Not unless the vehicle’s braking system is specifically designed for that disc. Vented and solid discs usually have different overall thicknesses and may require different calipers or carriers. Always fit the disc type specified for the exact application.

Why can one vehicle have several disc options?
A model range can use different brake packages depending on engine power, trim level, wheel size, production date or optional equipment. Two cars with the same model name and year can therefore require different brake discs.
What about drilled or grooved discs?
